David Shulkin confirmed as the new VA Secretary
On February 13, 2017, the Senate confirmed David Shulkin to be the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. In a surprising show of bipartisanship, Senators voted 100-0 to approve the former Obama administration official as the new VA Secretary. The following day, on February 14, 2017, Dr. Shulkin was sworn in as the Secretary for the VA.
Shulkin, a physician, held the VA’s top health position since 2015, and he is the first nonveteran to head the government’s second-largest agency.
